RPG Games FAQ

For Players/Gamers

How Do I Play a Game?
All games are online. To play any RPG, you must first be registered. Once you have your login, each game on the RPG Games page will show a "sign up" link next to it. Click once for each game you'd like to play.

Do I Have to Pay for WebRPG?
No, not to play or run any CyberCon-sanctioned events, tournaments and games. Your CyberCon pass includes weekend use of WebRPG for an unlimited number of games. In fact, while you may need to download some free software, you will not be asked to purchase anything else to play or run any CyberCon games.

Can I Use Something Besides WebRPG?
Sure. Our other official game tools are OpenRPG and our own chat room. GMs get to pick which. Players show up where the games are :)

If I do use WebRPG, How Does Free Play Work?
In the CyberCon Registration area, there is a place to put your WebRPG username. Simply do that, and the username you've chosen will be active and free throughout the Con.

What Is Game Status?
Games in our automated scheduling system are in various states of "readiness". A game that is scheduled but still needs confirmation from the GM is "Tentative". One that has a confirmed time slot is marked "Confirmed". One that is ready to take signups is "Ready". You are only able to register for games/seminars that are "Ready".

The Game I Want Says it's Full, But Let Me Signup as an Alternate ... What's That?
Each game has a limited number of players or attendees. However, the system will allow extra people to sign up as alternates. If you register as an alternate player, show up for the game/seminar on time. If a player doesn't show, the GM (or speaker) will allow alternates in first. Also, if a player cancels out ahead of time, everybody moves up a notch. You'll receive an email notification if you are boosted from an alternate to regular player before the Con.

Why Can't I Sign Up for a Game?
Most likely, because you're not Logged In. First, Register, then log in using your badge ID number and password. This will allow you to sign up for all the online events, games, contests and other things the Con has to offer. Without a login, you can only browse. Other possibilities include the event being full or not "Ready" yet.

The GM Didn't Contact Me ... am I Still Playing?
Yes. The GMs have a lot to do ... if you're on the list, you're playing. Show up on time and expect the GM to be there.

The GM Didn't Show Up ... Now What?
Head over to the Help Desk and find Loy or EffieRover. We'll get the game going. Alternate GMs have been assigned; we'll find him or her and do our best to make it happen.

For GMs

Will dicebots be available?
Yes, dicebots or integrated rollers will be available. Please try to run a practice game in your tool so we have no surprises. If you need access to WebRPG early, let the Games Coordinator know. Note that dicebots are optional -- if you don't want to use them, tell your players what you ARE doing.

Do I have to promote my game or get players for my game or does CyberCon do that?
Both. We are vigorously promoting the con as a whole, which should put players in your game. However, it would be to your advantage to spread the word yourself. Tell your regular gaming group, post in your favorite forums or chat rooms and generally pass it on. The more players you get, the more rpgshop credit you receive. While we're not interested in you taking more players than would fit the game, we are interested in having all games full with a couple of alternates for the no-shows.

How do I post/change my game description?
With your "MyCon" login ... pre-register and apply using the GM application so that I can assign your games to you. Once that happens, you can log in to the con using the regular login form and edit your games directly.

Do I have to submit my adventure idea now?
No, we'll send out a confirmation letter to all qualifying GMs before the con. You'll submit an idea then.

Do I need pre-gen characters?
Yes, but you might want to hold off on that until you receive confirmation of your GM application .

Do I really have to keep to 3.5 hours?
Yes. We'll be accepting ideas for double-session games (7-7.5 hrs), but only a limited number. Both because this will limit the number of GMs who get to play and because many players will be booted off after 4-6 hours by their provider. If it's not earth-shattering, keep it to 3.5 hrs.

How many games do I have to run?
One, two at the most. Because so many GMs will apply and we only have so many slots available, you'll only be asked run a few games.

Are all the slots taken?
Absolutely not. We're in the early stages of reviewing GMs. Please, submit your application for consideration. We'd like to make this the best Con possible!

How will I know if I'm in?
You'll get an email, identifying you as either a GM or a backup. Once accepted, you'll need to have your adventure outline in pronto, so be prepared to move fast.
