RPGHost.com Announces the Return of CyberCon
27 August 2001 -- The RPG Host network, a network of 14 RPG sites representing over 2.5 million page views and 150,000 unique visitors per month, announces the dates for CyberCon II. CyberCon is a premiere RPG (role playing games) Convention held live on the Internet using powerful virtual table top tools and techniques to enhance the visitor's playing experience. Following in the footsteps of traditional conventions, CyberCon also features industry guest speakers, presentations, vendor booths, special pricing on RPG items, a live auction, contests, prizes and open chat. The Con will be held October 19th through 22nd, 2001 at http://cybercon.rpghost.com
RPG Speakers include Tracy Hickman of Dragonlance fame and Elaine Cunningham of Forgotten Realms fame, as well as Neil Hallford of Dungeon Seige. This Con features events, workshops and games in different tracks such as Player, GM, Industry, Internet, RPGA, Indie, Small Press and CCGs.
The first CyberCon was held in July of this year, with special guest Gary Gygax. It was a rousing success for a first outing, and Mr. Gygax noted of his expierence: "As the founder of the GenCon convention it must be obvious that I love such events. For some time, though, work considerations have made it impossible to attend all the cons I would like to go to. Then along comes Cybercon...hooray! I can be at a virtual event without leaving the house. No big expense, no downtime, and lots of fun. Okay, not quite like being at a physical event, but the next best thing. Being able to add Cybercon to my list of conventions is great, and I urge all to attend and share the fun."
RPG Vendors already promised to the event include Gold Rush Games, whose 'Shiki' has been nominated for a 2000 Origins award; and Flying Buffalo, makers of "Tunnels and Trolls," the "Nuclear War" card game and founders of the Play by Mail industry among others. A complete vendor and speaker list is available on the web site.
"I think an event like CyberCon is a great asset to the gaming community. It [allows] people from all over the world enjoy the comfort of their house and still be at a convention. This also gives companies of all sizes the ability to be in the public's eye, play, visit and schmooze ... I think this idea is important with how much business is online. Why not events like CyberCon?" said Hal Greenberg, CEO of Thunderhead Games, Inc. "Thunderhead Games will be an active participant in these online conventions. We enjoy the ability to reach and talk to people that would be impossible to speak to any other way. Hope to see you lurking in the chat rooms, I will be!"
Over 50 RPG Games are being scheduled, including sessions of World of Darkness, Battletech, Shadowrun, Rifts, Star Wars, Warhammer, and even an online version of the board game Axis and Allies as well as a weekend long RPGA D&D Tournament. 45 GMs are being selected from over twice as many who have applied based on experience, technique and enthusiasm.
Prizes will be awarded to the best roleplayer in any game of 8 or more players and door prizes will be awarded throughout the Con. The prize pool currently includes rulebooks for: Valence by Valent Games, Obisidian by Apophis Consortium, Flatware by Green Goblin Games, Shattered Galaxy by nexon USA, Metalface by Eternal Tempest Productions; miniatures including DragonElves sets from "Saga of Logatroth;" and software from Design-A-Dungeon and Broken Earth.
An admission fee of $6.95 admits one player to any and all events scheduled for the weekend, including all presentations, forums, chats, and online games.
